Sharks Hire David Quinn As New Head Coach

The San Jose Sharks' head coaching search is over after they have hired David Quinn as their 11th head coach in franchise history. David Quinn was hired as coach of the Sharks on Tuesday.The former Rangers coach replaces Bob Boughner, who was fired July 1.https://t.co/Jt4GEA1jcB— NHL.com (@NHLdotcom) July 26, 2022Quinn is  relatively new to being a head coach in the NHL, but far from inexperienced. His coaching career started in 1993 as an assistant coach for three different teams: Northeastern University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Boston University. Between then and 2008-09, he spent 10 seasons as an assistant. It wasn't until 2009-10 when he finally got his shot as being a head coach.He was behind the bench of the Lake Erie Monsters for three seasons as head coach, taking them to the playoffs in only his second year with a .600 win percentage. Quinn got a sniff at the NHL in 2012-13 with the Colorado Avalanche as an assistant before returning to his roots to coach Boston University as head coach for five seasons.Quinn last coached in the NHL in 2020-21 as the head coach of the New York Rangers in his third season with the team. He took them to the playoffs in his second season where the team was eliminated in the qualifying round. The team finished positive in two of the three seasons. He was their coach at a transition period and is a great hire to do the same for the Sharks as they look to transform their roster through what may be a difficult couple of years.
