The San Jose Sharks remain near the bottom of the standings despite a couple of strong starts to the season by Erik Karlsson and Timo Meier. Both in fact have been involved in trade discussion as Frank Seravalli revealed Meier's trade value and the Sharks intentions for him.He said it's unlikely the Sharks are willing to make a long-term pact with Meier. This is because they already have a lot of money in veterans past their prime and they are a bottom-feeder. In order to rebuild, they must start getting rid of assets and opening cap space in order to take on bad contracts and receive high draft picks.Seravalli also reported that Meier's trade value is currently considerably less than what Chicago got for Alex DeBrincat. This makes sense considering Meier is an unrestricted free agent who will likely play less than half a season for whoever he gets traded to. The Senators get at least a full season of DeBrincat as well as team control after the season since he's an RFA. They can choose to trade his rights for a return or re-sign him. The team acquiring Meier won't get that luxury.Meier has been very good for the Sharks this season, scoring 12 goals and 21 points in 22 games. He also scored a hat trick in his last game and the team still managed to lose. He's making a case to be a point-per-game player for the first time in his career this season and will score goals, play physically, and take a ton of shots each game.Photo credit: © Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports...
