Winnipeg Jets Re-Sign Two Players to Two-Year Extensions
The Winnipeg Jets got a nice bit of business done on Saturday, re-signing two restricted free agents that hope to make a greater impact in the coming season. Both towering defenseman Logan Stanley and forward David Gustafsson have agreed to two-year extensions.David Gustafsson and Logan Stanley are staying in Winnipeg. 🛩️✍️ https://t.co/Y8HWaydBxC pic.twitter.com/yoKMksg6JH— theScore (@theScore) July 6, 2024Stanley, the 6-foot-7 behemoth of a blueliner, gets a two-year, $2.5 million deal, $1.25M AAV, after which he'll be a UFA in the summer of 2026.The Jets' first-round pick in 2018 (18th overall), the 26-year-old found it hard to get into the lineup this past season, going through a stretch of 23 straight games as a healthy scratch, and more than 50 of them overall. He played 25 games with Winnipeg, recording two points and a +4 rating, along with 40 blocked shots and 45 hits. He'll once again compete for a depth role on the Jets' blueline in the coming season. In 139 NHL games over four seasons, Stanley has recorded 22 points with a +17 rating while blocking 191 shots and dishing out 269 hits with his huge 228-pound frame.Gustafsson found himself next to Stanley in the press box more often than not this past season, also the victim of numerous healthy scratches. His deal carries a cap hit of $835,000 over the next two years, after which he'll be an RFA with arbitration rights. The 24-year-old forward registered three goals and four assists with a +1 rating across 39 games with the Jets. He played in four playoff games as well, scoring one goal.A second-round pick in 2018, Gustafsson has played 113 NHL games, with four goals and 10 assists. He's had more success with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL in the past few years, where, in 88 game, he has 59 points on 24 goals and 35 assists.Both players provide sound defense when they are in the lineup.
