The first defender of free agency signed by the Avs is de Haan. The Colorado Avalanche have their bottom pair defender.
Colorado has reached an agreement with Calvin de Haan to join the team in the Mile High City. It is officially a one-year deal with an AAV of $800,000 cap hit.

de Haan is a solid defender who stays at home and can work well in the depth of the defense, helping out on the penalty kill. He likely will not contribute much on offense but does have a rocket of a shot when he uses it. In his one year with the Tampa Bay Lightning last year, he had 82 blocked shots and 96 hits.
Fun fact: defenseman Calvin de Haan, who the Hurricanes brought back on a PTO today, was the last player to score a goal in the third round of the playoffs for Carolina. The 33-year-old left-handed defender had 10 points in 59 games with three goals and seven assists. This is likely a Jack Johnson replacement, and de Haan could be an upgrade in said role.
He needs to stay healthy, as he has had issues with this in the past. We’ll see how he fits in later, whether with Sam Malinski or someone else they bring in to replace Sean Walker. What do you think of this move? Let us know in the comments below!
