Penguins scouting Seattle/Western Canada for trade partners
The Pittsburgh Penguins are open for business, and president/GM Kyle Dubas been busy travelling west, to catch games among the Western Canadian teams, and some action from the Seattle Kraken. While Dubas admitted he'd like to make some adjustments to his roster, at this point, a 'fire sale' is off the table, according to the Penguins exec. Still, with a aging roster, and a team that is nowhere near expectations this season, expect to see multiple moves from the Penguins before the March 7 trade deadline.Kyle Dubas' first offseason in Pittsburgh has turned out .... not great. pic.twitter.com/uamPKa8G8K— Adam Gretz (@AGretz) January 15, 2025Dubas has swung-and-missed on several moves so far under the helm in Pittsburgh, and frankly, if this continues, he could wind up on the hot seat, sooner than later. Two players to watch are Tristan Jarry and Erik Karlsson, as the Penguins could very well try to move both, with salary retention coming into play, likely in both deals, but more so in Jarry's. Another Penguin who is likely to be moved is defenseman Marcus Pettersson. The pending free-agent blueliner is on the radar of several contending teams, as he can play heavy minutes in the top-four, and in most situations. The Penguins currently have $11.2 million in deadline cap space, and their first-round picks for the foreseeable future, so with Dubas calling the shots, anything is possible, good or bad."I outlined Kyle Dubas's first year in Pittsburgh to show the damage he did to that franchise. It's almost like someone deemed him this boy genius and now he's immune to criticism, I don't get it". - @frank_seravallihttps://t.co/uMT66wJPOihttps://t.co/mJLT9jZNbF pic.twitter.com/SedTBEI3SY— Sports 1440 (@Sports1440) January 16, 2025 Photo credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images ...
