One Man’s Opinion

from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

- If I’m the Florida Panthers, my big concern, maybe my only concern, is the health of defenceman Aaron Ekblad. He is out for the regular season. He was having a sensational season on defence for the Panthers. Will he return to form immediately, will he return slowly as he has in the past from injury? In playoffs, you don’t have time to work yourself into being ready to play.

- What a lost opportunity for the wayward Winnipeg Jets, missing the playoffs as winger Kyle Connor is having a season for the ages. And what an all-star vote there will be for the position of left wing — Connor, Jonathan Huberdeau, Alexander Ovechkin, Matthew Tkachuk, Johnny Gaudreau (who plays both wings) and Kiril Kaprizov. And that’s not counting Brad Marchand or 36-goal scorer Alex DeBrincat.

- Moritz Seider of the Red Wings has to be the rookie of the year in the NHL. The Red Wings have allowed 56 more goals against than they’ve scored as a team, but Moritz, who is on the ice almost 38% of the time for the Wings, is basically an even player at 5-on-5.

- Colorado will be thrilled once they get a good look at Artturi Lehkonen. He’s a coach’s son, like Connor Brown, who just understands how to play and how to win and he does it with great speed. A fine pickup for the already-fine Avalanche.
