Former Islanders' 4th Overall Draft Pick Calls It A Career

Griffin Reinhart, former fourth overall draft pick by the New York Islanders has announced his retirement at age 28. He was drafted in 2012 and spent the following two seasons in the WHL where he actually regressed.Once making the jump to the NHL, he recorded one assist in eight games before spending most of the 2014-15 season in Bridgeport of the AHL. He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers on Day 1 of the 2015 draft for which would turn into the pick that the Islanders chose Mathew Barzal.Reinhart spent most of his North American pro career playing in the AHL since he was never able to find his footing at the NHL level. He was traded once more in his career from Edmonton where he landed in Vegas. He would never play a game for the Golden Knights before heading overseas to play for three teams in three different leagues in three seasons.His first stop was Kunlun Red Star of the KHL, Iserlohn Roosters of DEL, and finally Balfast Giants in the EIHL.Reinhart recorded 22 goals and 81 points in 278 AHL games and two assists in 37 NHL games. He did appear in two NHL playoffs games across two different seasons, but that was the extent of meaningful hockey he's played.
