Mile High Hockey’s newest writer focusing on the Colorado Eagles and DU Pioneers. I would like to start by formally introducing myself. My name is Brennan Vogt and I am the newest writer to the Mile High Hockey team. I have been on the hockey beat since July 2021 and it has been a wild ride since. But first, let me tell you a little about who I am and where I come from.
Where I come from and my background
I have spent my whole life in the state of Colorado, specifically in the Denver metro area and Fort Collins. I grew up playing competitive soccer, baseball, wrestling, track and field, and basketball. My family were big fans of hockey. I just could never afford to play it until 2014 as an adult. I have played 10 years of house leagues in hockey with seven as a captain.
My wife Sherry and I have been together since I was 16 years old (I will be 40 this year), and we are lucky enough to have a wonderful five-year-old son together. We both attended Colorado State University together, graduating in 2008. I worked in tech support from 2008 to 2018 and then banking for a year after that. My wife could tell I was unhappy and told me to quit, so I made the tough decision to leave banking. And this is where it all began.

Drop everything and start reporting
The pandemic put everything on hold on my decision to leave but gave me valuable time with the little guy. I officially started reporting on the Colorado Avalanche on July 14, 2021: The Ryan Graves trade to New Jersey. Christian Bolle of Denver Nose Bleeds gave me my first crack at writing while I did daily Facebook posts for Eurolanche. I approached C.C. Hawkley of Full Press Hockey and he helped me perfect my writing in the summer of 2022. During that summer, I did daily reports of who was skating by going to the rink myself and watching. It was at this point that Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now approached me and offered me a position for the upcoming season. I jumped right into the beat with locker room interviews, practice reports, and live game coverage. Unfortunately, we parted ways in December 2022 and I started back at Full Press Hockey.

In July 2023, Full Press Hockey mutually agreed that they were not the best place for me. The-Rink recruited me and became their division editor the following January. I worked alongside Savvy Rafkin, who became a key pillar of the Colorado division with me. We covered both the Avalanche and the Colorado Eagles with the occasional University of Denver thrown in.

My goal is to bring you the best Avalanche, Eagles, and Pioneers coverage that I can. Sometimes field reporting, which is something that I love to do, can be extremely beneficial. Through the years, I have learned so much from Dater and C.C. Hawkley and I want to bring that all to Mile High Hockey. I am not done learning yet. I will always improve my work and hold myself to an even higher expectation than before. You can find all my links right here and follow me on every platform on the web!
