TRADE: Seattle Kraken Bring Back Daniel Sprong in Trade with Canucks
The Seattle Kraken got the very best out of forward Daniel Sprong two years ago. Now, they've re-acquired the nine-year veteran hoping they can rekindle that success. Sprong had totalled three points in nine games with Vancouver this season, playing 11:39 per night. But it was just two seasons ago that he broke out with a career year in Seattle, popping 21 goals to go with 25 assists for 46 points and a plus/minus of +13, all personal bests. And he did it all in just 11:25 TOI in 66 games. He signed a $2 million free agent deal with the Detroit Red Wings that summer, and had a decent follow-up effort, with 18 goals in the Motor City and 43 points in 76 games. But free agency didn't go as well for him this offseason, and he wound up signing with the Canucks for a relative bargain rate of $975,000. But why would Vancouver trade him now, with forward Brock Boeser going down with a concussion after the illegal hit from Tanner Jeannot Thursday night? It appears that head coach Rick Tocchet wasn't too happy with Sprong's work on the defensive side of the puck. For the Kraken, they've struggled getting some secondary scoring this season, and are 21st in the NHL in goals per game. It's hoped that Sprong can provide some offensive help in their bottom-six, as he did in 2022-23. The Kraken are off to a slow start overall, at 5-8-1....
