Penguins Place Emil Bemstrom On Waivers, More
There is only one player placed on waivers on the last day of March, and that's Emil Bemstrom by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Everyone on waivers from the previous day has cleared.Emil Bemstrom (PIT) on waivers. Everyone on yesterday cleared— Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) March 31, 2025The Penguins aren't statistically eliminated from playoffs, but are six points back with two fewer games to play and there are five teams between them and the final wildcard spot in the East. While the team hasn't given up yet because they have been playing better than everyone ahead of them in said playoff race, the roster is pretty full and competitive and the Penguins are going to test some players out.Bemstrom has only played 13 games this season and has recorded one assist. He played three games in a row after being a healthy scratch for three consecutive games, but only recorded one shot, one hit, and one block in those three most recent games. The 25-year-old didn't even play a combined 20 minutes in those games though. The Penguins are more focused on 21-year-olds Rutger McGroarty and Ville Koivunen who were both just recalled and logged a lot of ice time in Pittsburgh's last game. This is the future and Bemstrom hasn't shown he can really make an impact for the Penguins. He is in the last year of his deal and is a RFA after the year. I don't really expect the Penguins to send him an offer and he will likely become a UFA this summer.Photo credit: © Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images ...
