3 San Jose Sharks trade candidates as rebuild continues
The San Jose Sharks continue to rebuild their roster, as Macklin Celebrini is leading the charge of their young core. GM Mike Grier has not been shy making bold moves the past couple of seasons, looking to find young assets to build his team around. The Sharks are once again headed for the NHL Draft Lottery, but that doesn't mean the bottom-feeding team in the West, won't be making a slew of moves before the trade deadline March 7. Here's three Sharks to watch as trade talks are heating up:Jake WalmanWalman is a two-way threat from the back end, who could help a lot of contending teams with their power play, and secondary scoring. Walman plays heavy minutes in all situations in San Jose, and considering he's a top-four d-man, who makes just $3.4 million this season, and next, trade interest should be significant in his services. Walman doesn't have any trade protection and can be moved at will. Luke KuninKunin is a pending free agent and Grier is very likely to cash in on the rental market. Kunin's perfectly suited as a 3C on a contending team, who can play a defensive role, but also chip in with some offense. The 27-year-old has scored 11 goals so far this season, while hitting everything that moves. His in-your-face style is perfectly suited for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and look for a contending team to scoop up Kunin before March 7. He's in the final season of his deal, making $2.75 million.Mikael GranlundGranlund is also a pending free agent who does not have any trade protection. The veteran, versatile forward is having a strong season in San Jose, recording 44 points in 51 games this year, leading the Sharks in scoring. Granlund earns $5 million against the cap this season, and Grier and company have shown a willingness to retain salary in trades, which could wind up landing them a first-round pick if/when they move Granlund before March 7.Photo credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Images...
