Goals from Lee, Pageau, Wahlstrom, and an empty-netter from Horvat give the Isles a road win in Ottawa. After a comeback win against the Penguins on Tuesday night, the New York Islanders only made one change to the lineup, with Matt Martin coming in for Hudson Fasching.
Isaiah George stayed in the lineup with Alexander Romanov and Mike Reilly still out, and he played 24(!!) minutes tonight, more than Dennis Cholowski, Grant Hutton, and Scott Mayfield. Really promising stuff to have Roy’s trust like that in his 2nd NHL game.
The top line looked good tonight, with JG Pageau scoring in consecutive games, a three point night for Bo Horvat, and Anders Lee now having 6 points in his last 4 games. And Oliver Wahlstrom finally scored his first of the season, which ended up being the game winner.

First Period
Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri had some great chances early, and Simon Holmstrom had a shot in the slot saved by Anton Forsberg.
Then, Noah Gregor took a high sticking penalty, sending the Isles to the power play, which the Senators were able to kill. Grant Hutton was called for holding a few minutes later, and Semyon Varlamov made a big save on Drake Batherson to keep it 0-0.
Jake Sanderson took a high sticking penalty, and the Islanders’ power play was canceled out by Simon Holmstrom taking a tripping penalty 50 seconds in, but neither team converted on special teams.
Second Period
Adam Gaudette put a shot off the post, and Anders Lee had a one timer saved.
Then, Bo Horvat made a behind the net back pass to Lee, who put the puck past Forsberg to make it 1-0 Islanders.

Less than 3 minutes later, JG Pageau would make it 2-0, after beating out several Senators for a bouncing puck. Behind the play, Claude Giroux wanted a penalty, but that went uncalled as the Islanders extended their lead.

Third Period
Less than 3 minutes into the third, Oliver Wahlstrom picked up his first goal of the season, a really nifty backhand in the slot.

A few minutes later, Nick Jensen pulled one back for the Senators, making it 3-1. After that, Brady Tkachuk nearly got a wraparound past Varlamov, and some pushing and shoving broke out in the crease afterwards.
Max Tsyplakov was called for boarding Claude Giroux, and on that power play, Drake Batherson scored to make it 3-2. Then, Brock Nelson was called for hooking, while Josh Norris joined him in the box for embellishment.
The Senators pulled Forsberg for an extra skater, and the Senators put pressure on the Islanders, getting some good looks on net. After that shift, Varlamov looked like he might have tweaked something, so that’s something to keep an eye on.
Then, with 9 seconds left, Bo Horvat put the puck in the empty net, securing a 4-2 win for the Islanders over the Ottawa Senators.
