UFA Cal Clutterbuck Linked to Nashville Predators
After 11 straight seasons on Long Island, it appears that unrestricted free agent Cal Clutterbuck has played his last game as a New York Islander. It was back in mid-August that Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello said he was "probably moving on" from Clutterbuck. Arthur Staple of The Athletic has dropped word that he expects, perhaps in PTO form, the Nashville Predators to bring the 36-year-old fourth-liner into camp.I’d keep an eye on Nashville. Barry Trotz has added a couple of former Islanders in his short time as Preds GM, trading for Anthony Beauvillier last season and signing Kieffer Bellows to a two-way deal this summer; Nashville has plenty of cap space and Trotz has a real affinity for Clutterbuck. Clutterbuck and Trotz are mutual fans of each other, as their comments during their time together on Long Island would attest.“He was instrumental in instilling a belief in ourselves and that we are a very capable group,” Clutterbuck said about Trotz coming in and turning the Isles into a Cup contender. As for Trotz, he noted when he came on board in New York, that he always hated playing against Clutterbuck. For someone who plays the physical game he does, there's no better compliment. It's quite possible we see a reunion of the two before camp arrives in Nashville. Proving he's back to full health, Clutterbuck handed out 273 hits last season, the most punishment he's doled out in that department in eight years. Photo: © Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports...
