NHL Rumors: Senators Open To Signing Forward To Extension
Although Nick Paul is one of the Ottawa Senators' most notable rental candidates, a trade may not automatically occur. According to Frank Seravalli, they are still open to the idea of signing him to an extension. Perhaps this shouldn't be too surprising, as Paul currently is one of their alternate captains. The 26-year-old is having a bit of a down year this campaign, though, as he has seven goals, three assists, and a minus-15 rating in 37 games. He just recorded 20 points in 56 games in back-to-back seasons, so he is capable of producing a little more frequently. Yet, there is also still time for him to improve on his season from here. Paul is known for being a good option for the penalty kill, but especially when he's playing at his best. If they sign him to an extension that is at a reasonable cap hit, it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea at all. However, he also is the kind of bottom-six forward playoff teams love to have, so we could still see him moved. That is especially the case if Ottawa isn't able to come to terms with him by the deadline. He also offers solid versatility, as he can play both center and on the wing. The Senators have already signed Nick Holden to an extension, so the same could happen with Paul. Alas, we will have to wait and see how this all plays out. Photo Credit: © Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports...
