Boston Bruins Sign Goaltender To Extension
The Boston Bruins have a bit of a goaltending dilemma. But it's the kind of dilemma most teams would love to have: too many NHL-ready netminders. In Linus Ullmark, the Vezina Trophy frontrunner, and restricted free agent Jeremy Swayman, they have two elite puck-stoppers at the NHL level. And at the AHL, Brandon Bussi is a rising star. The Bruins have today strengthened their goaltending future by re-signing Bussi to a one-year, two-way contract extension with a cap hit of $775,000.Bussi was selected to the AHL’s All-Rookie team in 2022-23, posting a 22-5-4-1 record with a 2.40 GAA and a .924 save percentage with Providence this past season. He also played in the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic. The 24-year-old has good size, at 6'5", 209 pounds, and appears to be on the fast track to the NHL. His signing certainly comes at the right time, considering the issues facing the Bruins around being able to carry both Ullmark and Swayman going forward. The Bruins have salary cap concerns, and projections have Swayman fetching a 2-to-3 year contract that could carry a cap hit somewhere between $3.5-4.5 million. Ullmark has two seasons left on a four-year, $20 million contract with a $5 million salary cap hit. According to Boston Hockey Now, one of the incumbents could be a cap casualty, possibly clearing the way for some NHL time for Bussi next season.Photo: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports...
