Vasili Podkolzin may not a super flashy player, but he's a consistently effective player, the kind of player who makes your team better. Vasili Podkolzin may have been quiet on the scoresheet on day one of the 2021 World Junior Championship in Edmonton, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t make an impact on the game.

He’s a player who does all kinds of little things well. He’s a constant presence around the puck no matter which zone he is in. He makes smart decisions on the puck.

There’s lots to commend him for, even if he’s not a player who takes you out of your seats because he’s simply not a super-flashy player.

Honestly, that was one of the weaker efforts I’ve seen from Podkolzin this year, but that’s hardly cause for concern.

I thought he missed a couple of passing opportunities, which is pretty uncharacteristic of him, and just ineffective offensively in general,” he said.

Costmar’s skating was a concern in his 2018-19 draft year and will still need work to get to the NHL.
