Five-Goal First Sends Stars Past Griffins

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, stormed past the Grand Rapids Griffins 6-3 after scoring five goals in the opening period Saturday night at Van Andel Arena. Matej Blumel scored the Stars’ fourth goal at the 10:57 mark minutes before Trenton Bliss put the Griffins in the score column at 13:37. After 20 minutes of action in Grand Rapids, the Stars owned a 14-12 shots advantage over the Griffins. With Texas still leading by four after 40 minutes, the Stars were edging the Griffins 28-27 in shots on goal. On the other end for Grand Rapids, Jussi Olkinuora surrendered three goals on the first six Stars’ shots....
