3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Tyson Barrie

The 2024-25 NHL season is around the corner as training camps get set to kick off in a couple of weeks. The free-agent market is still littered with a bunch of veteran defenseman who can contribute for next year, including right-handed two-way blueliner Tyson Barrie.Barrie had a rough end to his tenure in Nashville as there was a bit of a riff with GM Barry Trotz and the coaching staff, as Barrie was pulled from the power-play and eventually pulled from their lineup. He finished with 15 points in 41 games last season and at 33 years old, is still capable to chip in offensively in the right situation.Here's three teams to keep an eye on for Barrie's services:Calgary FlamesThe Flames are rebuilding on the fly so it will be interesting to see if Barrie joins them for training camp as the team isn't going to win too many games in 2024-25. If he's looking for a chance to play and potential turn a one-year deal, or PTO into a longer contract, Calgary may be the perfect place to set up shop.Edmonton OilersThe Oilers have been linked to Barrie most of the summer as there's some history there. After a couple of trades and losing Philip Broberg to the St Louis Blues via an offer sheet, Barrie could very well lock in as a 6/7 defenseman and help run the team's second power-play. Barrie spent three seasons with the Oilers and was eventually dealt to the Nashville Predators so we'll have to wait and see if he circles back to start next season.Colorado AvalancheAnother one of Barrie's old teams, the Avalanche have some cap space to work with, and they also have an opportunity for adding another right-handed defenseman to their mix. Barrie spent the majority of his playing days in Colorado and is still very close to their core, so a reunion certainly isn't out of the picture. If he didn't get dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Nazem Kadri, some feel he'd still be wearing an Avs' jersey. Barrie's expected to make a decision in the very near future with training camps opening around the corner.
