from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,

- The best part of Brad Treliving’s summer is that he got socked in the gut and chose to fight back. Instead of just taking the departure of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk’s want to leave Calgary, he came out punching. He came up with Nazem Kadri, Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar. Those moves may not make the Calgary Flames better. But they might. And it’s the general manager’s job to deal with crappy circumstances and Treliving came out swinging here.

- Bold prediction: Connor Bedard is going to pack the place when he gets to Arizona.

- Sam Gagner just turned 33 and is 33 games away from 1,000 NHL games after scoring almost 33 points for the Red Wings last season. He sits now without a contract and will play for cheap. Real cheap. And still, the phone isn’t ringing and it should be for a man of this quality

- Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Lou Lamoriello, please contact the authorities. Fans of the New York Islanders are concerned he has gone missing.
