The Red Wings sweep the season series against the Islanders, with Lucas Raymond scoring a late game-winner for the second game in a row. Stop me if you’ve seen this one before. The New York Islanders took an early lead against the Detroit Red Wings, who tied it up not long after. This time, they were able to put two goals past Alex Lyon, who becomes prime Dominik Hasek when playing the Islanders. However, it still played out the same way, as the Isles gave up two quick goals in the third period to fall behind, with Lucas Raymond scoring the game winner, just as he did on November 21.
Kyle Palmieri continued his hot streak, scoring his 10th goal of the season tonight, and Anders Lee got back on the scoresheet, but none of that would be enough to secure the win at home.

First Period
The Red Wings started the game with some good chances early, with Lucas Raymond just missing on a wide open net.
But then, JG Pageau and Bo Horvat had chances, and Noah Dobson missed picking up the rebound on an empty net, Horvat put another rebound over the top of the net, and Anders Lee scored to make it 1-0 Islanders.

Then, on the Red Wings’ second shot of the game, Mo Seider scored to make it 1-1.
30 seconds after that, Simon Holmstrom drew a penalty, sending Dylan Larkin to the box, but the Red Wings killed that, and then Kyle MacLean was called for slashing, sending Detroit to the power play. But Simon Edvinsson took a penalty with 26 seconds left on the power play, giving us 4 on 4 hockey and then another Islanders power play that would carry over into the second period.
Second Period
The Red Wings killed that penalty to start the second.
Matt Martin nearly scored his first of the season, but was blocked out from picking up a rebound with an open net.
Then, Max Tsyplakov made a cross-ice pass in the offensive zone to Isaiah George, who took a shot that was tipped by Brock Nelson into Alex Lyon’s pads, but Kyle Palmieri found the rebound to make it 2-1.

Dylan Larkin missed a tap in to tie the game, and the Islanders managed to survive being hemmed into their own end for over 2 minutes until Pierre Engvall was able to carry it out of the zone.
Then, Nelson played the puck coming off the bench, leading to a too many men penalty, which Tsyplakov served.
On that kill, Nelson had a shorthanded chance saved and the Isles spent a ton of time in the Red Wings’ zone to kill the penalty.
Grant Hutton was called for boarding at the end of the period, but the Isles killed that penalty.
Third Period
During the second, Matt Martin didn’t play for the last ten minutes, but was back for his regular shift early in the third.
Pageau passed the puck off to Horvat, who had a point blank shot saved by Lyon.
Lee tipped a shot from Scott Mayfield that Lyon couldn’t find in his pads but was saved.
Larkin was called for tripping for the second time tonight, but Detroit killed that, too, and then shortly after he left the box, he tied the game at 2-2.
Hutton took a shot that Lyon just got a piece of to stay out, and Nelson had a chance that Lyon also was able to save.
And then, after some time in the zone, Lucas Raymond tipped a shot from Edvinsson to make it 3-2.
Ben Chiarot hit Lee right by the boards in the numbers, but no penalty was called and the play and Lee fought him after, which led to Chiarot getting called for boarding and roughing, and Lee getting two roughing penalties on the play.
With 2:49 left, the Isles pulled Semyon Varlamov, and they got chances but Lyon was able to keep all of them out.
Edvinsson’s long range attempt at the empty net went wide for icing, giving the Isles an offensive zone faceoff they couldn’t do anything with.
The Islanders came close to the tying goal a few times, but couldn’t get anything past Lyon, and Edvinsson picked up the empty net goal, handing the Isles a 4-2 loss and sweeping the series.
Up Next
Next, the New York Islanders host the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, November 27. The Bruins have been struggling this year, but hey, their last game was a win against the Red Wings, so who can really judge?
