Timo Meier Draws Suspension from NHL For Vicious Cross-Check To The Face

New Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier has been suspended by the NHL Player Safety Dept. after his vicious cross-check to the head of Nashville Predators forward Zach L'Heureux during a scrum on Monday night. The Devils forward, however, drew blood with his cross-check to the chops on the Predators' physical forward. It all happened long after the play had stopped.Meier was handed a major penalty and game misconduct for the infraction. NHL Player Safety responded with a hearing with Meier today, and quickly handed down their one-game punishment: "It is important to note that Meier is in control of this play at all times," said the DoPS in its ruling. "Players are responsible for their stick at all times... This is a high cross-check after the whistle is blown, that makes direct contact with an an opponent's head with sufficient force." L'Heureux is a 21-year-old rookie, with 17 games under his belt, with five points and 50 hits handed out. Meier is a 9-year veteran who has recorded 15 points thus far in 24 games for the Devils along with a plus/minus rating of +8.  ...
