BLOCKBUSTER: New York Islanders Trade Brock Nelson to Colorado Avalanche
The New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche have completed a late-night blockbuster as Brock Nelson is on his way to Mile High.Nelson, along with William Dufour traded from the Islanders to the Avalanche for top prospect Cal Ritchie, defenseman Oliver Kylington, a first-round pick in either 2026 or 2027 and a 2028 third-rounder. It's an absolute haul for the Islanders who take advantage of a sellers market and swoop not only the Avalanche's best prospect in Ritchie, but also a 2026 first-round pick, a draft that's going to be loaded with talent. The New York Islanders have acquired forward Calum Ritchie, a first-round selection in the 2026 or 2027 NHL Draft, a conditional third-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft, and defenseman Oliver Kylington from the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange for Brock Nelson and William Dufour.— New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) March 7, 2025Nelson was made available this week by the Islanders after apparent contract talks broke off. While the Minnesota Wild, Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs were very interested, the Avalanche delivered a package that Lou Lamoriello couldn't refuse.Nelson is coming off a 34-goal season and is on pace for roughly 60 points this season. He's a streaky scorer who can find the back of the net in bunches, and gives the Avalanche another speedster among their top six. The 33-year-old center is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and is making $6 million AAV. The Islanders are retaining 50% of his contract, and also immediately flipped Kylington to the Anaheim Ducks for future considerations. A prolific creator of scoring chances, rush opportunities, and goals at 5v5 who handles the puck well. Hasn't necessarily had the defensive impact his reputation dictated; he's an offensive player first and foremost. pic.twitter.com/ViLao2su6w— JFresh (@JFreshHockey) March 7, 2025 ...
