Bruins Rumors: Jeremy Swayman Becoming Sought-After Trade Candidate
It was a write-off of a season for the Boston Bruins, and it all began with the combative contract negotiations between goaltender Jeremy Swayman and the team, which dragged out until just days before the regular season began. Now that the Bruins are well into a 'reset' and are reassessing things team-wide, is it possible that the Swayman controversy has them considering a trade of their starting netminder? With the UFA goalie market pretty thin this summer for teams looking for a starter between the pipes, insider Elliotte Friedman said on a recent 32 Thoughts podcast, that Boston will definitely be fielding some calls from other teams, who might smell blood in the water. I thought the whole Swayman thing blew up their season before it even got started and they were never able to get it on the rails. As you can tell, I’ve been talking to teams that are looking around for goaltending [and] I do think there are going to be teams that call the Bruins about Swayman. If the Bruins are ever going to think about getting off of that much-ballyhooed eight-year extension with an $8.25 AAV, they would have to do it this summer. Swayman's full no-move clause kicks in on July 1, 2026. And in fact, if the B's are looking to make any kind of blockbuster this summer involving any of their highest-paid players, Swayman is right now the only one without a no-move.The big question now is: Do the Bruins believe that Swayman will bounce back and be the elite goalie he showed he could be in his first four seasons (albeit, while doing a time-share in net with Linus Ullmark)? Swayman had save percentages ranging from .914 to .920 in his first three 'full' seasons, before dropping off this past year to an .892 Sv% with a goals against average over the 3 mark (3.11) for the first time in his career. And if they don't believe that he can bounce back, they'll have to be ready to pull the trigger on another shocking trade this summer. Photo: © Bob DeChiara-Imagn Images...
