NHL Trade Rumors: Proposed Blockbuster Would Bring Zegras To Philadelphia
We all heard Trevor Zegras' name being bandied about at the trade deadline, but a move was a longshot at best. Now? It seems that the talent-laden youngster and the Anaheim Ducks could be due for a parting of the ways this offseason.According to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman, he calls the outcome of the Zegras/Ducks issue "probably the most fascinating summer decision in the NHL." He also notes that "there’s a nagging sense not everyone’s comfortable with each other here."Enter Jonathan Bailey of Philly Hockey Now, who proposes a blockbuster move that could be made to satisfy the needs of both the Ducks and the Philadelphia Flyers. He notes that the two teams have already pulled the trigger on a trade this season (Jamie Drysdale/Cutter Gauthier). And while Ducks GM Pat Verbeek put it out there that he's looking to add a right-shot top-six forward and a right-shot top-four defenseman, Bailey notes that "the Flyers could provide both of these things if they are willing to make such a trade".Specifically, he suggests that Trevor Zegras would fill Philly's need for a young, talented 1C or 2C that they can build around. In return, and brace yourselves, Flyers fans, he suggests that top forward Travis Konecny could go the other way in this deal. He's due to be a UFA after next season, and neither side has indicated that any extension talks are in the works. As for the Ducks' need for a right-shot defenseman, Bailey says that Rasmus Ristolainen has caught the eyes of many GMs around the league after his resurgence as a viable third-pairing blueliner this year. Unfortunately, injuries could complicate this part of any potential deal, as the big Finnish D-man underwent surgery after the regular season for a ruptured triceps tendon. He is expected, however, to be ready to go for the start of training camp in September.Zegras for Konecny and Ristolainen as the centerpieces of a blockbuster?
