 In a rather shocking move, the New York Islanders have fired head coach Barry Trotz. #Isles News: New York Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello announced today that Barry Trotz has been relieved of his duties as Head Coach.— New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) May 9, 2022 This decision comes after the Islanders' disappointing 2021-22 season. They finished the year with a 37-35-10 record and were fifth in the Metropolitan Division. With that, they were 16 points behind the Washington Capitals for the final Wild Card spot.Although it was a bad year for the Islanders, this decision wasn't expected by many. Trotz put together a very strong tenure behind the bench for the Islanders.
