The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Mathieu Olivier to a six-year, $18 million contract extension. Starting next season, Olivier will have a $3 million AAV. The 28-year-old forward has blossomed into an incredibly important part of the Blue Jackets' roster this season, and he will now be a long-term part of their core because of it.After posting five goals and 12 points in 54 games this past season with the Blue Jackets, Olivier has hit a new level offensively this season. In 60 games, the 6-foot-1 forward has set new career highs with 12 goals and 21 points. He also has maintained his incredibly hard-nosed style of play in the process, as his career-highs of 99 penalty minutes and 228 hits show completely. The Blue Jackets made it clear that their goal was to sign Olivier to a contract extension, while the tough guy wanted to stay put.
