One Man’s Opinion
from Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun,
- Pat Verbeek, who once smiled — although no one can confirm when — is the new general manager of the Anaheim Ducks. He is the latest of the Jimmy Devellano Management Tree to get a big-time appointment. The Devellano list includes Ken Holland, Steve Yzerman, Jim Nill, Colin Campbell, Neil Smith, Don Waddell. Pretty impressive group.
- There’s reason to be concerned about Jack Campbell heading to the second half of the Maple Leafs season. He had an unsustainable 1.27 goals-against average in November, a somewhat high 2.97 goals against in December, a very high 3.57 GAA in January. The best news in all that: He has a 21-6 regulation time record and a very sound .925 save percentage.
- You expect a network the quality of ESPN to not have as many technical glitches as it had Friday night for the NHL’s shlocky Skill Competition event. ESPN was tripping all over itself all night long.
- So who had Jonathan Huberdeau leading the NHL in scoring at the all-star break, and Nazem Kadri tied for third with Connor McDavid?
