NHL Rumors: Maple Leafs To Target Ducks Defenseman
According to Darren Dreger, the Toronto Maple Leafs are likely to pursue Anaheim Ducks defenseman Josh Manson if he is made available.Dreger on TSN1050 talking other possible Leafs trade targets:Josh Manson is another name, what are they doing with him in Anaheim? I'd have eyes on him, again, he can play whatever style you want, expiring contracts are important.— NHL Watcher (@NHL_Watcher) January 21, 2022 At this point of the season, the Ducks have a 20-16-7 record and are second in the Pacific Division. However, teams behind them like the Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames, and Edmonton Oilers have all played fewer games than them. Therefore, they certainly aren't locked to make the postseason. They also have a 3-7-0 record over their last 10 contests, too.If the Ducks continue to go down this trend, we could see them being sellers at the trade deadline. Manson would become one of their biggest rental candidates, as he is an unrestricted free agent at season's end. Therefore, rather than potentially lose him for nothing, the Ducks could move the veteran defenseman if they are out of the playoff picture.Manson would be a nice addition to the Maple Leafs. He would instantly give them a top-four, right-handed defenseman who also plays a very heavy game. In 41 games this season, he has three goals, three assists, and 49 penalty minutes. Although the points aren't high, he is known for being a defensive defenseman. If the Ducks decide to shop Manson, don't be surprised to see the Leafs work hard to acquire him.Photo Credit: © Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports...
