NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Phil Kessel
Many were surprised this NHL season when the Arizona Coyotes didn't trade Phil Kessel before the trade deadline. Then, details emerged as to why as Kessel's iron man streak and the birth of his first child around that time were major players in the 'Yotes decision. Kessel didn't want to be moved with the chance of being scratched by his new, better team. While Arizona is still a possibility this summer to re-sign the one-time prolific goal scorer, here's three other teams to watch once July 13 hits and free agency begins:Boston BruinsThere's been a few predictions out there regarding Kessel back to the Bruins and while it was certainly a possibility a couple of weeks ago, with the mess that's going on now, perhaps he stays away. Boston is in need of some secondary scoring and Kessel at times, can provide this. Last season he recorded only eight goals in 82 games, however he did finish with 52 points. This would be a fun reunion to watch shake out and let's see if the Bruins are as interested as some feel this offseason.Los Angeles KingsTo me, this is the team that should be favorites as Kessel loves the warm weather during the season which allows him to mix in some golf and fishing in between games. The Kings also happen to be looking for production from their wings and someone like Filip Forsberg and Kessel have become prime targets. General manager Rob Blake is in win-now mode and the Kings could be interested enough to make an offer in the coming weeks.Nashville PredatorsSpeaking of Forsberg, if he leaves Nashville, look for the Preds to have serious interest in Kessel to help burden the exit. Forsberg is going to be one of the hottest names on the free-agent market and the 34-year-old Kessel is going to be 'plan B' for a number of teams who miss out on the Predators star. Money isn't an issue in Nashville and don't expect to see Kessel secure the bag this summer. His career earnings are closer to $100 million on the ice alone, so money isn't an issue and it's going to be all about the fit. Kessel and fit, two things not normally in the same paragraph.
