Sabres Rumors: Insider Has Latest on Lindy Ruff's Future
It has not been a warm and fuzzy return for Lindy Ruff behind the bench this season with the Buffalo Sabres. So what does his future hold? After having spent 15 years coaching the team from 1997 through 2012, Ruff came back this season to try to be the one to snap the franchise's record 13-year playoff drought. That won't happen, as the record will stretch to 14 seasons, and it wasn't even close. Buffalo is 29-35-6, sitting dead last in the Atlantic Division with 64 points. But according to insider Pierre LeBrun on TSN, it's looking like Ruff will get another chance to turn around the fortunes of the team. It's been a tough year in Buffalo. (Ruff) was quoted this week as sayingthat he wants to come back for the final year on his deal. And I was told todaythat that is the intention of (GM) Kevyn Adams, that he would like to bringLindy Ruff back. Now, of course, the qualifier here is that this plan will only come to fruition if Adams himself is allowed to return. The GM has come under plenty of fire this season, both for the performance of the team, as well as a midseason press conference when he dropped the now-infamous 'no palm trees in Buffalo' comment. Here is the full bite where Adams mentions "we dont have palm trees, we have taxes in New York." "Look at the bills, they are a perfect example. I'd assume this wasn't a destination or a place people were signing up to when they were in a 17 year playoff drought....you get Josh… pic.twitter.com/CJru2gn4fz— Sara Holland (@SaraaHolland) December 6, 2024Will Adams be held accountable for the continued failings of the team? He and Ruff do seem attached at the hip at this point. The two of them hosted a season ticket holder's event Wednesday night, getting blunt and answering questions from the people who pay their bills. "If I had to do it over again, I may have shook something up by making a trade (much earlier)," Adams said. "I maybe should've shook something up by bringing a couple players up from Rochester. Maybe that would've been just something to change the dynamic of our group."The GM did try to do something (after it was too late) at the trade deadline by dealing away struggling but talented center Dylan Cozens. But so far, that has blown up in his face, as Cozens has looked totally rejuvenated with the Ottawa Senators, recording eight points in nine games, while Josh Norris, who he received in return, unfortunately has been out for the last two weeks after playing just three games with the Sabres. Buffalo will be a team to watch this offseason, both from the management and player side of things. Photo: © Timothy T. Ludwig-Imagn Images ...
