Report: Sharks Moving On From Goaltender Georgiev
The San Jose Sharks are going a new direction in net after the season as the team is reportedly moving on from goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. This report came from Sheng Peng who covers the Sharks.Georgiev says Grier has told him that Sharks are moving on from him. He’s a UFA— Sheng Peng (@Sheng_Peng) April 17, 2025 Georgiev is in the third of a three-year deal that he originally signed with the Colorado Avalanche. After a great first season, his play went downhill quickly and the Stanley Cup contender moved off of him earlier this season. The Sharks took him on to finish out the year and it was never likely the team would bring him back. The Sharks have already signed their starter of the future in Yaroslav Askarov, but has been giving Georgii Romanov an opportunity late in the season to see what they have in him. I think the team goes into next season with Romanov as their third string. He's shown some good stuff, but isn't ready to be a full time NHLer behind a young goalie in Askarov.San Jose is still in a rebuild, but they are building something good. Askarov should get at least 50% of the starts next season and Romanov will get in some games, whether there's injuries or not, but the Sharks will target someone in free agency or even take on a contract in a trade. That remains to be seen, but whoever the team brings in, it's a new look in net and Georgiev will have to find himself a place to play elsewhere.Photo credit: © Neville E. Guard-Imagn Images ...
