3 New York Islanders Not Expected Back in 2023-24

1 year ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The New York Islanders have made some dramatic changes this season as they continue to try and secure a Stanley Cup Playoff position in the Eastern Conference. The math may not be adding up for the Isles, who are being chased by teams who have more games in hand. Regardless, should be fun to watch down the stretch. Let's just ahead to this summer, and showcase a few Islanders who aren't expected back with the club:Semyon VarlamovA goaltender who will have a tremendous amount of interest coming his way on the open market, Semyon Varlamov will be priced out of New York this summer. He's had a strong season with a .910 save % in his 21 appearances. Look for Varlamov to sign a two-year deal this offseason and push a team's starter for minutes, it's just no likely going to be Ilya Sorokin.Scott MayfieldA player many felt was getting traded before the deadline, due to the number of teams who had interest, Scott Mayfield will be getting overpaid this summer. He's a towering presence from the right-side of the blue line and is what a lot of teams are lacking on their back end. So far in 70 games, Mayfield has chipped in with 17 points and look for him to be playing elsewhere in 2023-24.Jean-Gabriel PageauA player who teams were calling about, Jean-Gabriel Pageau was almost traded a few weeks ago. He's a pesky center who can also play the wing and so far this season, has recorded 31 points in 58 games. An effective forechecker and someone who can play many roles, Pageau is signed through the 2025-26 season at $5 million. He holds a modified no-trade clause which protects him from 16 teams. Look for a trade to come this summer.Photo credit:   Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports...
