Top 5 Free Agents Available on the Open Market

The 2022-23 NHL season is around the corner and there's plenty of questions still left unanswered. Some teams have seen a complete overhaul this summer, while others have only tinkered and left their fanbase in disappointment. Well general managers, there's still time and still some talent left available to sign. Let's dive into free-agent market and showcase the best five players still available to sign:Phil Kessel, RWThe Arizona Coyotes appear content with moving on from veteran forward Phil Kessel, however it's still a bit of a surprise other teams haven't jumped in. This could be something where Kessel is the one holding things up as he's enjoying his life with his young family. He recorded 52 points in 82 games last season, a year where the puck wasn't going in for him. Kessel is talented enough to bounce back and is talented enough to continue to play in the league, we'll just have to wait and see if that's something he's looking forward to doing. If Kessel decides to play, look for the Minnesota Wild, Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers to all be in the mix.Paul Stastny, LW/CThe Winnipeg Jets forward doesn't appear to be heading back to the franchise and expect to see Paul Stastny sign on before training camps open. The 36-year-old had a great season, recording 45 points in 71 games and has shown even though he's slowing down a touch, his hands and hockey sense can still get it done. The Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche are expected to show some interest before the start of the 2022-23 season.Evan Rodrigues, RW/C© Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY SportsThe Pittsburgh Penguins don't appear to have any interest in bringing back Evan Rodrigues, which is kind of strange considering he put up 43 points in 82 games, making only $1 million last season. E-Rod is only 28 years old, however perhaps his career season is scaring off teams that it's only a one and doneA mindset which really shouldn't be the case as Rodrigues will continue to find success in the league. Where that is at this point is unknown, however he's been recently linked to the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres. Sonny Milano, LWAfter putting up 34 points in 66 games, the Anaheim Ducks decided not to make a qualifying offer to Sonny Milano and walked away from the 26-year-old forward. Could he re-sign regardless with the Ducks? Of course, but as we saw with Danton Heinen in Pittsburgh, that's usually something that gets done fairly quickly. © Gary A. The organization loved how Subban accepted the mentor role last season and could bring him to back to play bottom-pair minutes behind Damon Severson and John Marino. Subban's also been linked to the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Stars, and New York Islanders. While his game has slowed down in recent years, put Subban in a situation where he can play second power-play unit and some depth minutes, and he'll still be able to contribute.
