Islanders Anxiety - Episode 299 - The Cynic’s Guide to Preseason Hockey

1 month ago  /  Lighthouse Hockey  /  Read Time: 1 minute 12 seconds

Please stop saying, “We’re so back.” We don’t want to be “so back.” We want to be better. Mike and Dan “recap” the Islanders preseason so far including roster spot battles, empty intrigue and the mystery of Ilya Sorokin’s status.
With about 60% of their exhibition games over (of which Mike has watched zero minutes, per his standard policy), the Islanders are shaping up along expected lines. But a few players are vying for an open spot no one seems especially suited for, which might make next week’s final cuts and waiver choices very interesting.
They also discuss how Sorokin went from missing just “the first few days of camp” to missing essentially all of it while skating on his own away from prying eyes. It’s a less than ideal situation for fans who just want to know what to expect, but it’s par for the course under Lou Lamoriello.
Finally, they examine Amazon’s two upcoming forays into the hockey business and how one will make Thomas Hickey a big star and the other is unlikely to make new fans.
Best wishes to our friend Brian Compton in his battle against MS. He has our full support.
