Tyler Johnson Lands PTO With Atlantic Division Team
12-year veteran Tyler Johnson has landed himself an invite to training camp, as the former Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning forwarad has signed a PTO with the Boston Bruins.#NHLBruins sign Tyler Johnson to a PTO 17-14-31 with Chicago last season Two-time Cup winner with TBL#GetBent pic.twitter.com/lTUyfgPPZh— Bruins Benders Podcast (@BruinsBenders) August 31, 2024 Coming off a 7-year contract with a $5 million AAV, Johnson hasn't been the scorer in his three seasons with Chicago that he once was (dealing with a number of injuries as well), and will now have to compete for a job, and a standard contract, at Bruins camp.The diminutive (5'8") forward is a two-time Stanley Cup champ from his days with the Bolts, and brings another seasoned skater to camp. With the Hawks last season, he recorded 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points while playing 15:32 per game. If he is back to full health and can tap into his former offensive touch, he could be a nice secondary scorer for the Bruins and offer them some center depth.The 34-year-old went undrafted after a stellar four years in juniors in the WHL, then showed that despite his small stature, he could compete on the NHL level. He posted four 20-goal seasons with the Lightning. In 738 career NHL games, Johnson has 193 goals and 238 assists for 431 points, while boasting with a plus/minus rating of +20 while averaging 16:26 of ice time per contest.
