NY Islanders Get Bad News on Noah Dobson After Gruesome Injury

The news was as bad today as it looked last night for New York Islanders' top-pairing defenseman Noah Dobson after a gruesome injury suffered in Monday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 25-year-old is out indefinitely and there is no timetable for his return. Dobson's role on the Islanders’ top power-play unit while logging 24:12 of ice time per night means that the team has a huge void to fill, in yet another blow to their injury-riddled blueline this season. After finishing 8th in Norris Trophy balloting last season, Dobson's playmaking is down considerably this season, with just 18 assists and 24 points following a 60-assist output last year with 70 points. He's also down to a minus-8 rating, after a +12 last year. But the loss of the 6'4" right-shot D-man still leaves a big hole on the Isles backline. It's terrible timing for Dobson on a personal front as well, as he'll be an RFA this summer, and is due for a large raise and a long-term deal, coming off his three-year bridge deal with a $4M AAV.
