Clair DeGeorge Announces Transfer to Ohio State

One of the first of potentially many transfers that are likely to come this summer due to the NCAA’s decision to allow an extra year of eligibility for players because of the Covid-19 pandemic has happened, and it is a big one. Bemidji State senior forward Clair DeGeorge announced via her Instagram account that she will be using her extra year of NCAA eligibility to transfer to Ohio State.

DeGeorge never put up eye-popping offensive statistics at Bemidji State, a team that traditionally doesn’t score much. But there is little doubt is DeGeorge is one of the most skilled, talented players in the NCAA. Listed at 5-10, DeGeorge’s combination of size, skating ability, and puck-handling makes her a unique match-up problem for opponents.
She was a member of gold medal-winning 2017 women’s U18 team and has skated with the US women’s national team in practice settings, including this week, where she is at USA Hockey’s evaluation camp for this year’s women’s world championships. We listed DeGeorge as an outside shot for next year’s Olympic roster, though she is likely a few years away from being a regular on the national team.
In addition to her prowess on the ice, DeGeorge is also a 4.0 student majoring in nursing.
After appearing in the Frozen Four in two of the last three tournaments, Ohio State looks poised to make another run next season. Top line center Liz Schepers announced her return to the Buckeyes earlier this week, and if fellow seniors Emma Maltais and Tatum Skaggs also return, the Buckeyes should be extremely formidable next season....
