3 Potential Trade Destinations for Sharks' Vitek Vanecek
The San Jose Sharks are selling off some trade assets, which include goaltender Vitek Vanecek. The 29-year-old netminder as held out of the Sharks latest game for trade-related reasons, as GM Mike Grier mulls over a few offers.Vanecek is a pending free agent who owns a $3.4 million cap hit. There's zero chance he's traded if Grier isn't open retaining a significant chunk of his salary, as the Sharks' goaltender has struggled this season, posting a 3-10-3 record, along with a .882 save percentage. Here's three teams who could be interested at 50% of the cap hit before Friday's trade deadline:Carolina HurricanesThe Hurricanes have been in the market for goaltending depth all season long and have a big question mark when it comes to the sustained health of Frederik Andersen. Vanecek could give them an experienced #3 at a very low acquisition cost, and consider Carolina is looking to add ahead of the deadline, these two teams could work out a much bigger trade than just Vanecek.Edmonton OilersThe Oilers have had trade conversations on several goaltenders and while Vanecek wouldn't push Stuart Skinner for starts, he could be given a look towards the end of the season if Cal Pickard and Skinner struggle down the stretch. The Oilers acquired Trent Frederic from the Bruins, and kept some salary cap flexibility to make a couple more moves before the deadline.Florida PanthersWith Spencer Knight off to Chicago, and Chris Driedger recalled, the Panthers could use another option in case there's an injury. Florida has a ton of cap space remaining and a very aggressive GM who is looking to upgrade all elements of his team before the trade deadline.Photo credit: © Robert Edwards-Imagn Images...
