Calgary Flames Signing Hometown Kid Out of University of Denver
After another strong season at the University of Denver, undrafted forward and Calgary-born Carter King is turning pro and signing on with his hometown Calgary Flames. Hearing #Flames are closing in on signing Calgary native Carter King, undrafted free agent who was captain at Denver.King's deal is a one-year, entry-level contract that will begin next season. He'll finish out this year with AHL Wranglers.— Frank Seravalli (@frank_seravalli) April 13, 2025Insider Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reports that the Pioneers captain will sign a one-year, entry-level contract to take effect in the 2025-26 season. In the meantime, King will play on an ATO (amateur tryout) deal with the Flames' American Hockey League affiliate, the Wranglers. The Flames aren't unfamiliar with King, as he attended their development camp last summer as an undrafted invitee. King has been with Denver throughout its tremendous four-year run, which included two national titles in 2022 and 2024, and a heartbreaking double-OT loss in the Frozen Four semi-finals this year. The 23-year-old had his best season yet in his final year, recording 21 goals and 43 points in 44 games, along with a plus/minus rating of +17. He was also close to a point-per-game man last season, with 34 points in 37 games. He's a tremendous faceoff man who plays the game with tenacity. He'll certainly help address an area of need for Calgary, up the middle.Photo: © Nick Wosika-Imagn Images ...
