Took me three days to come up with that joke that somebody else probably already made. Please clap. Fresh body, fresh thread.
We have officially entered the dead of the offseason; there is very little news to report about our New York Islanders.

But there isn’t no news! The fresh body is Liam Foudy, a speedy, 24-year-old winger who went 18th overall to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2018.

The Jackets waived him early last season, so Barry Trotz claimed him for the Nashville Predators, before waiving him again and sending him to the AHL. He has scored only seven goals and 15 assists in 102 NHL games, including just three assists in the 13 games he dressed for the Preds. He’s probably going to be AHL depth and get call-ups, or at best be the 13th or 14th forward.

The Islanders also gave RFA Tyce Thompson, a.k.a. the “Bretter Lindros,” a.k.a. Blake Kessel, a.k.a. David Toews, a new contract. [PuckPedia Tweet]
At this point in the offseason, it’s worth examining the depth chart. That also includes a full season of Patrick Roy, Benoit Desrosiers, and now Tommy Albelin behind the bench. [Newsday]
Indeed, the Islanders are better now than they were last season with the addition of Anthony Duclair. But just how much? Maxim Tsyplakov is the true wild card here. Maybe we sit here in December and say he turned out to be the other top-six forward they brought in this summer. Maybe he’s on the fourth line, or back in Russia frustrated from not playing. The Bridgeport Islanders are rocking the fisherman logo full-time. Way better than the ‘B,’ that’s for sure. They also revealed their schedule. [Islanders]
But they will be doing so without the services of Ruslan Iskhakov, who Ethan Sears confirmed will be heading to the KHL next season. [NY Post] Who will replace his production in Bridgeport? [THN]

Ryan Suter will receive checks from three (3) different Central Division teams next season; the twice-bought-out defenseman signed a one-year, league-minimum deal with the St. Louis Blues. [NHL]
Rod Brind’Amour said watching many of his good players the Carolina Hurricanes leave in free agency was “hard to watch,” to which I would respond, regardless of whether the grammar was correct, “for whom?” [NHL]
The Calgary Flames brought in “veterans” Anthony Mantha and Jake Bean for stability in the rebuild. I’m not sure either of those guys provide that. They certainly are trying to be bad. [NHL]
It is so funny to me that two supposedly brilliant, lock-and-key GMs, Chris Drury and Steve Yzerman, let their Jacob Trouba discussions get out two or three days before he was required to submit his no-trade list so he and his agent could come together to make a list that includes the Detroit Red Wings and ruin all the New York Rangers’ offseason plans. Between that and his handling of Barclay Goodrow, Drury really botched this offseason. Teehee. [THN]
