NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Trying to Sign Nazem Kadri

2 years ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

Nazem Kadri may not get paid exactly what he was looking for when the offseason began, but that doesn't mean there still aren't a number of teams looking to secure him to a long-term deal. Kadri has been patient with the process, which at this point may have been a bad decision and now time is ticking to get something done before training camps begin. Here's three teams who appear to be frontrunners at this point:Boston BruinsThere's a ton of uncertainty with free agent David Krejci and if he's re-joining the team, and if he isn't, looking for the Bruins to offer Kadri a four-to-five year contract at around $5 million per season. Make no mistake about it, he's not going to get the big money he was looking for and now the market has completely changed.  Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY SportsBoston knows Kadri very well from his Toronto Maple Leafs days. Having Patrice Bergeron and Kadri as your #1/2 centers would be a great set up for the B's.New York IslandersIsles general manager Lou Lamoriello loves Kadri and is very familiar with the person and the player. The two have already agreed to one contract together as the veteran executive was the one who signed Kadri to a six-year $27 million deal in Toronto. It was a great contract for both sides and now there's a chance another deal gets worked out. The Islanders have a bunch of forwards that don't really fit right now and could use another offensive weapon in their group. Consider Lou the favorite at this point to be the GM to get Kadri's pen to paper.Colorado AvalancheThe Avalanche haven't given up hope Kadri will accept a championship discount and to this point you can't cross off the Avs just yet. They only have around $4 million in cap space and a trade would likely have to take place to make everything work in the Mile High. Newly minted GM Chris McFarland recently admitted the team has asked his agent to keep them in the loop, so expect to see Kadri land an offer from another team and circle back to see if the Avs will match it. The door isn't quite closed just yet, folks.Photo credit: © Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports...
