Islanders News: Segmentation; Simon says Roy says

The Islanders, or should we air-quote preseason “Islanders,” are back in action tonight at the World’s Most Self-Congratulating Arena to face the Rangers, who apparently are in a last-kick-at-the-can mode — which is fascinating given they just entered their rebuild a few short lottery lucky flips ago.
Anyway, like most of you, I couldn’t give two Averys about the Rangers and whichever up-and-coming Bolduc the Post will write six articles hyping. They will suck up a lot of oxygen, build a lot of unrealistic expectation, and ultimately disappoint the folks who think they are destined for glory if only [fill in your Drury/Rempe/Trouba blank here].
The Islanders may be starting to segment their training camp group now. It’s likely tonight we’ll get our first look* at the preferred first-line trio:

#Isles won't confirm until tomorrow but main group this morning likely will essentially be roster for tomorrow at #NYR Duclair-Horvat-BarzalMartin-Cizikas-FaschingLiukas-MacLean-EngvallDufour-Karlstrom-FoudyRomanov-DobsonOdelius-MayfieldGeorge-HuttonVarlamovTikkanen— Andrew Gross (@AGrossNewsday) September 23, 2024

*if you watch preseason games. Which is totally fine if you do, but come on people, get a grip.
Islanders News

Patrick Roy believes that with consistency, Simon Holmstrom can earn the spot next to Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri. “I said to Homer, ‘You might not like me today, but you’re going to love me down the road.’ That’s how I see it,” Roy said. “I’m pushing on details, and I’m pushing on them, and I hope that eventually, the game is going to get easier for him and us.” [Isles | THN]
If Holmstrom and Maxim Tsyplakov shine, Oliver Wahlstrom probably has no path to the opening roster. [Newsday]
Previewing tonight’s preseason game, sort of. [Isles]
Congratulations! And also condolences, to Thomas Hickey. (New job, but Messier is a colleague.) (Also: Apparently Amazone Prime has some NHL hockey.)

Speaking of Amazon or Prime or whatever the hell it calls itself, it has a six-part FACEOFF: Inside the NHL series dropping featuring various NHL stars — er, sorry, “compelling characters” (Jacob Trouba is one subject). [NHL] Click for the list of subjects, stay for the corporate wonder-jargon like “The NHL has worked with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on their cloud based content delivery system to facilitate the delivery of new in-game analytics and video highlights to enhance fan experiences.”
Pending UFA Igor Shesterkin will not continue negotiating once the season starts. Also: He apparently seeks a $12M annual value. What could go wrong, signing a goalie to that rate? [Post]
I love that the Capitals are bringing back the Screaming Eagle jersey for a few nights but Ovechkin’s looks like absolute crap because the sponsor logo crowds his captain C. [NHL]
The long Manitoban nightmare is over as Cole Parfetti has re-signed for two years with the Jets. [NHL]
The Avalanche signed some guy coming off hip surgery to a six-year extension. [NHL]
John Tortoretta invited the Gaudreau’s dad to help run practice. [NHL]

It has come to my attention there are few Devils fans around here. Must be holdover Rockies/Chico fans. Regardless, I think all can agree this is the shit and should be the primary mask:
