The Nashville Predators season has obviously not gone the way they expected. After making big splashes in free agency last summer, bringing in the likes of Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, the team has wallowed around near the bottom of the league standings. GM Barry Trotz has been reluctant to say he's ready to blow things up, but just to make sure, per insider Elliotte Friedman on his 32 Thoughts podcast, Trotz has gone to his star players to see exactly where their heads are at: He's gone to a lot of his players and he's asked them, 'Are you still in? Because if you're not after this year, I'll move you.' I heard that a lot of his core guys, basically all of them said, 'yeah, we're embarrassed, but we want to fix this.' so as far as I know, I don't think there's anybody there who is part of their core who has asked out. This includes not only the aforementioned star players, but also Ryan O'Reilly, who is treated as if he has a no-trade clause. "I have no reason to believe that O'Reilly has changed his mind on being in Nashville," added Friedman. The Predators do have some other players with term that they could be ready to move on from at the deadline, according to the insider, including: Luke SchennColton SissonsThomas NovakMichael McCarronSo, Trotz is "open for business", but as Friedman reiterated, "the key group... he's keeping that core group together."Nashville is 21-32-7, the third-worst record in the NHL. Photo: © Christopher Hanewinckel-Imagn Images...
