Goals from Lee, Holmstrom, Horvat, and Romanov lead the Isles to a 5-2 win against the Colorado Avalanche. Out of nowhere, despite the injury crisis, the New York Islanders are red-hot. Four different goal scorers would contribute tonight against the Colorado Avalanche, and both of the new blueliners, Tony DeAngelo and Scott Perunovich, would pick up their first points as Islanders.
The penalty kill kept it together all game, so despite having zero power play opportunities, the Isles won the special teams battle. Anders Lee and Bo Horvat continued to put up points, each of them scoring tonight, and Alex Romanov had a great game, laying some big hits to stop Cale Makar and getting a goal of his own.
Ilya Sorokin was also at his best, making some incredible saves when he was called upon.
This season is so weird. Of course the Islanders would play some great hockey with two top four defensemen down.

First Period
Ilya Sorokin was the highlight of the first period, making some big saves on the Avalanche’s big names, stopping Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon multiple times.
Simon Holmstrom had an opportunity to get on the board, but he couldn’t deke the puck past a sprawling Mackenzie Blackwood.
JG Pageau went to the box for hooking, and the Islanders were able to kill the penalty.
Second Period
Anders Lee would open up the scoring, picking up his 22nd of the year after picking up the puck off a bounce pass by Brock Nelson.
Sorokin stopped MacKinnon again, saving a wraparound attempt.
Then, Lee would head to the box for slashing, but the Isles killed that, too.
A few minutes later, Artturi Lehkonen would tie the game, putting the puck past Sorokin’s shoulder after getting knocked to the ice.
Third Period
Simon Holmstrom scored early, sniping it past Blackwood after getting the puck behind the net.
Sorokin once again made some critical saves on the Avalanche top line, but then Josh Manson scored to tie at two... at least until Patrick Roy challenged for goaltender interference. Jack Drury had made contact with Sorokin in the crease before the goal, and so it was taken off the board.
Then, a missed wraparound by Lee made its way to Bo Horvat, who made it 3-1 Islanders.
But with 5 minutes left, Drury scored to bring the Avalanche back within 1. That would be short lived, though, because a few minutes later, Alex Romanov would put a blast from the blueline past Blackwood.
And to put the cherry on top, Holmstrom scored his second of the game into the empty net to make it 5-2, sealing the Isles’ fifth straight win.
Up Next
Next, the Islanders head to Philadelphia on Thursday to take on the Flyers and try to push the win streak to six games.
