Senators Get More Competitive with Jiri Smejkal
On Friday, May 5, the Ottawa Senators announced that they had signed 26-year-old Czech star, Jiri Smejkal, to a one-year, $870,000 deal. “Jiri’s signing is a good addition for us,” after the signing. However, as he’s mostly an unknown name to North American fans, let’s take a moment to get to know the newest Senator. In 72 games, he finished his rookie season with 12 goals, 32 points, and 50 penalty minutes, ranking sixth among the team’s top scorers.
