Anaheim Ducks' 2023 Trade Deadline Needs

The Anaheim Ducks are going to be sellers at the trade deadline, but that doesn't mean that they aren't looking to add. In their case, it is young players of any position and assets. It may still be a couple more years of sitting at the bottom of the standing while their youth develops, but with more options to choose from, they have a likelier chance at coming out strong. The Ducks have a number of trade candidates that they are hoping to move at the deadline to help with the turnaround. They also have a large amount of cap space to potentially be a third team in a trade to take on cap space. This would fetch get them a mid-low level prospect or pick, but it's better than nothing. The Ducks are hoping to at least move John Klingberg, Kevin Shattenkirk, Dmitri Kulikov, and Derek grant, but it wouldn't be unlikely if they were to trade Frank Vatrano, Adam Henrique, Jakob Silfverberg, or Maxime Comtois. Say half of those players are moved, the group that is under team control or has years left on their deals are going to garner better returns. The Ducks were hoping that Klingberg would produce much more than he has this season. It has dropped his price significantly and he may be able to be moved for a second round pick at the most with 50 percent retained. The Ducks have no issues retaining cap and can squeeze a little more value out of trading partners by offering it up. They will be lucky if they can get a first round pick back at all this trade deadline as the only player they may be able to swing that for is Henrique. The Ducks need more futures, but would benefit more by near NHL-ready talent in return for their players. Unfortunately with the season most of the team is having, value is down all around and they are likely going to get a bunch of mid-round picks or prospects at the deadline.Photo credit: © Isaiah J.
