3 Potential Trade Destinations for Predators' Ryan O'Reilly

5 days ago  /  NHL Trade Rumors

The Nashville Predators have failed to meet expectations this season, and GM Barry Trotz is expected to listen to just about any trade offer before the March 7 trade deadline. That includes on veteran center Ryan O'Reilly, who signed a long-term contract with the Predators last summer, one that didn't include any trade protection.O'Reilly is under contract through the 2026-27 season at $4.5 million AAV, and so far this year, has recorded 34 points in 51 games. While O'Reilly could be heavily involved in any trade, as Trotz has a ton of respect for the former Conn Smythe winner, here's where O'Reilly could end up if he's open to the deal:Tampa Bay LightningThe Lightning always find a way to surprise at the trade deadline, and add to their bottom six. O'Reilly would give Jon Cooper another veteran for down the middle of the ice, and one of the most defensively responsible players in the league. Tampa Bay is a wild-card team ahead of the trade deadline, and adding O'Reilly would be quite the splash.Vancouver CanucksThe Canucks are looking to continue to be aggressive ahead of the trade deadline, and adding O'Reilly would revamp their third line tremendously. Conor Garland and Brock Boeser continue to be trade candidates out of Vancouver, and it will be interesting to see what Trotz would be looking for if O'Reilly is moved. It won't be draft picks and prospects, and with re-tooling in mind, Vancouver could be a good trade partner.Toronto Maple LeafsYes, O'Reilly chose not to re-sign with the Leafs last summer, despite the exact same contract being offered by Brad Treliving, but there's certainly a fit for the Leafs to circle back. Word is O'Reilly preferred the less hectic market like St. Louis or Nashville now, and wasn't a huge fan of all the distractions that come with playing in Toronto, close to his hometown.
