Blackhawks Captain Feels Coming Change Good for Everyone
Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is going through a bittersweet season. The team is struggling and management has hit the rebuild button, tearing down most of the veterans off their roster. Change is coming ahead of the March 3 trade deadline and this could include Toews being shipped out of town, along with fellow legend Patrick Kane.Toews met with the media recently and had this to say about the current pulse check in Chicago:Toews:“Part of myself doesn’t want to admit the situation & wants to continue being a Blackhawk & finish my career here. Same time, part of me sees the writing on the wall. Team is trying to hit the reset button & maybe change for everybody is not such a bad thing.”#Blackhawks— Mario Tirabassi (@Mario_Tirabassi) January 16, 2023Change isn't a bad thing, and good change is even better. Toews owns a no-movement clause and will control his own destiny. There's been a ton of chatter already and several teams have reached out to the Blackhawks to get a sense of the timelines involved here.So far this season in 40 games, the 34-year-old Toews has registered 12 goals and 24 points. He's due $10.5 million this season and the Blackhawks will be retaining some of his salary in any trade. As for potential suitors, the Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets are the heavy favorites at this point with the Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals and Seattle Kraken in the second tier. This is from his 1-on-1 with @CRoumeliotis on the @NBCSBlackhawks podcast Link here:https://t.co/4n2BthGf7w— Mario Tirabassi (@Mario_Tirabassi) January 16, 2023 Photo credit: © James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports ...
