NHL Trade Rumors: Islanders & Ducks Linked To Trade

The New York Islanders have been linked to Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras as a potential trade target, with Russ Macias of NYI Hockey Now suggesting he could be a more affordable option than Elias Pettersson. With Mathew Barzal sidelined, the Islanders’ offense has struggled, particularly on the power play, and Zegras could provide a spark. The 23-year-old has had a difficult season, recording just six goals and 15 points in 31 games while adjusting to Ducks head coach Greg Cronin’s system. “The once flashy young superstar has lost a lot of his luster,” Macias wrote, noting that Zegras’ drop in production stems from injuries and a system that doesn’t suit his skill set.Ridiculous pass by Trevor Zegras.Allowed the Ducks to enter the zone before Zegras eventually scored himself. pic.twitter.com/rhvHLRV9AQ— Félix Sicard (@Felix_Sicard) January 26, 2025 Anaheim is reportedly looking for a defenseman in return, and the Islanders have options to offer. Macias speculated on whether Scott Mayfield, Ryan Pulock, or Adam Pelech would waive their no-trade clauses to facilitate a deal, though that remains unlikely. He proposed an alternative trade package involving Scott Perunovich and a second-round pick, arguing that Zegras' value has dipped enough for such an offer to be considered. “It’s not often a 23-year-old forward with that type of early production shakes free, but if the price is right, the Islanders should absolutely pounce,” Macias wrote.Trevor Zegras toned down the flash he played with when he burst on the scene a few years ago in favor of more 200-foot attention to detail.
