Gabriel Landeskog To Rejoin Avalanche Ahead Of Playoffs
The Colorado Avalanche have recalled captain Gabriel Landeskog from his conditioning assignment with the AHL's Colorado Eagles, the team announced Tuesday. His loan was cut short after spending nearly a week with the Eagles as he works his way back from a long-term knee injury.Gabriel Landeskog’s conditioning loan has been terminated and he will rejoin the Avalanche today. pic.twitter.com/IKD0ACbt87— x - Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) April 15, 2025Landeskog, 32, hasn’t played in the NHL since June 26, 2022—the night he assisted on the Cup-clinching goal in Colorado’s Stanley Cup victory over Tampa Bay. Since then, he has undergone cartilage transplant surgery in May 2023 and spent the entire recovery period on long-term injured reserve (LTIR).In his first pro games in nearly three years this April, Landeskog was held scoreless in his debut but tallied a goal and an assist in his second outing."Physically, I feel great," he said after his first game. "It’s been a long time, so there’s plenty to work on, but it was a lot of fun."The Swedish forward admitted there were moments he doubted a return was possible, making the experience even more rewarding. "Being back in the battle, on the bench, in the room—all the little parts of the game—it felt amazing," he added.Several Avalanche teammates, including Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Josh Manson, along with GM Chris MacFarland and former teammate Andrew Cogliano, were in attendance for Landeskog’s April 11 game to show their support. If his knee responds well, Landeskog could rejoin the Avalanche for their first-round playoff series against the Dallas Stars. Colorado is currently using LTIR relief to exceed the salary cap by over $6 million (per PuckPedia), but since the cap doesn’t apply in the playoffs, activating him won’t require any financial adjustments.Avalanche fans will be eager to see their captain back in action after a 738-game NHL career that includes 248 goals and 571 points.
